Captain Picard and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise (NCC-1701-E) journey to the distant past to thwart the plans of the malevolent Borg and encounter their Queen as they attempt to alter history. Picard is still troubled with the memories of his hideous transformation into Locutus of Borg and must put his fears and thoughts of revenge behind him to insure that Zefram Cochrane can send off his first warp-capable ship on a test flight in time for it to establish first contact between the human race and Vulcans before the Borg are able to stop it, effectively preventing man from reaching the stars. |

This novel stars the original crew of Star Trek, and takes place during the final year of their original five year mission. The planet Talin IV lies in ruins. A smouldering husk of a planet once teeming with life now drifts lifeless in space. James T. Kirk is an outlaw, kicked out of Starfleet Command, stripped of his rank for his actions that led to the death of the inhabitants of Talin IV, now known throughout the galaxy as "Kirk's World", named so all could remember the atrocities that occured as a direct result of Starfleet's most famous Captain's violation of Starfleet's General Order Number One (The Prime Directive). Starfleet's most celebrated Ship, the U.S.S. Enterprise has been destroyed. The crew of the Enterprise have all been dismissed from Starfleet Command, and have gone their separate ways. Only Mr. Scott remains; not being on the bridge, he was not among the accused for the incident on Talin IV, and is now tasked with attempting to retrieve what is left of the Ship. The crew of the Enterprise, dissatisfied with the decision from Starfleet Command with regard to the events on Talin IV all manage to find their way back to the planet, encountering several adventures of their own along the way to the impromptu reunion. What really happened on the planet's surface, and was Kirk really to blame? An excellent story about how one of Starfleet's most famous names became infamous. For all fans of good science fiction. No prior Star Trek knowledge needed to enjoy this "What If..." style tale of the reasons why The Prime Directive exists. Book in excellent condition, but missing dustjacket. |
